The bodkins made of hardened steel or polished brass are suitable for threading elastic bands and cords through waistbands, hoods, etc. The brass version features a needle that is split in the shaft and open towards the eye, with a spherical, rounded tip. When a band is threaded through this eye and then pulled down between the halves of the needle shaft, it becomes clamped and can then be securely anchored and pulled through the casing. The other bodkin, made of rust-protected steel, is also a blunt needle. However, it has a wide, flattened, and therefore thinner needle shaft with both an oblong and a round eye. The long eye is intended for holding bands and thick yarns, while the round one is suitable for finer yarns and round elastic. The burr-free, rounded tips of the needles cannot pierce the fabric and therefore glide easily through any fabric tube. Their balanced spring tension and smooth coated surface make these needles professional tools.
